A new US study has found that donating a kidney is safer than previously thought. Researchers tracked 30 years of kidney donations and discovered that by 2022, fewer than 1 in 10,000 donors died within three months of the surgery. Earlier data had suggested a risk of 3 deaths per 10,000 donors. Dr. Dorry Segev from NYU Langone Health, who co-authored the study, noted that safety in kidney donation surgeries has significantly improved over the past decade.
