The Centre has approved 12 greening projects under the Green Credit Program (GCP), aimed at incentivizing environmental actions. Currently, 24 plans from various state forest departments are being considered. The government encourages public-sector undertakings (PSUs), particularly in mining-heavy states, to participate. Guidelines for third-party verification of projects are being developed. The GCP, established in October 2023, invites participation from PSUs, private industries, nonprofits, and individuals in environmental initiatives like afforestation and waste management. Participants earn green credits for their contributions, tradable on a platform.
