AI in the high seas with the French Navy for detection of submarines

The French Navy is incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to improve underwater vessel detection amidst increasing noise levels. Led by the Navy's Acoustic Recognition and Interpretation Center (CIRA) in Toulon, in collaboration with Preligens startup, the initiative aims to enhance detection capabilities. Testing of AI technology onboard submarines is expected by year-end, with full operational deployment planned for 2025. This effort is part of a strategy to handle the growing data from advanced passive acoustic sensors.
